Have you ever noticed how few people comment on articles on major websites with a ton of traffic? It’s a shame too because commenting on something can help show just how interesting or interested you are.
I’ve always been baffled at how few quality responses get posted on great articles. However, on Google+ I’ve noticed just the opposite. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and of course Google+ all encourage interactions, but sometimes it seems as though the good old comment box on websites ends up getting neglected.
Personally, I’ve had some amazing interactions with people I really respect just by leaving a thoughtful comment on an article. It’s a great way to take an interaction even further and really build some relationships. Furthermore, commenting can also help you flesh out an idea or thought. Sometimes I get an idea for an entire blog post just because I took the time to figure out how I wanted to respond to something I read or saw online.
I view commenting as sort of a secret weapon. If you take the time to write a thoughtful, though-provoking comment it can really help you stand out and better yet meet some really awesome people. I’m not talking about the old “great article” comment either.
