Of course this doesn’t mean all that copy you’re writing is meaningless. But it’s very it’s important to have something that attracts people to your words. Including an eye-grabbing picture in a post is a surefire way to achieve this.
This tactic fits perfectly with the data we’re seeing about how people use social networks. One of the major elements of Facebook’s success is how the social network has put a premium on visual media. When you see pictures and photos parts of the brain are stimulated that tend to bring up feelings of nostalgia and/or curiosity. Don’t take my word for it, just ask the scientists. But we don’t really need scientists in labs to tell us this, look no further to your own reaction when you see a cute animal picture or an old picture of you and your friends. Try hitting the brain from all angles. Continue to write engaging posts, updates, tweets, etc that are super awesome and informative, but also take the time to find that perfect picture that illustrates your point and turns great copy into a complete post.
