This morning brings in the official news that Yahoo has bought the popular CMS, Tumblr, for a reported $1.1B. Not too shabby for a platform that often seems to get lost in the mix.
First off, I’m glad more people will start paying attention to what I lovingly refer to as my “secret CMS.”
If Yahoo is able to not ruin Tumblr this could be a very nice move for the company. I’ve been slowly falling in love with Tumblr over the past few years.
I find a ton of content over there and have found it to be a very organic method of spreading quality content. In my estimation, what makes Tumblr so effective is the simplicity of the platform.
People on the web want to see images, brief text posts, links and have the ability to quickly post content they enjoy. Tumblr has been making that experience easier and easier over the past few years.
I’m not surprised to see the purchase price exceed $1B. When you’re doing something right people start to take notice.
Congrats to Tumblr and to Yahoo: Don’t screw this up!
